It's ten years since the first Sunday for Sammy show was staged at Newcastle City Hall to celebrate the life of Geordie actor Sammy Johnson following his sudden death in 1998. Since then the bi-annual show has gained legendary status and the cast list has featured the cream of North East stage, screen and musical talent.
The 2010 show featured on this DVD thrilled the sell-out audience once again and surpassed all previous productions. Sunday for Sammy regulars Tim Healy, Kevin Whately, Christopher Fairbank, Brendan Healy and Billy Mitchell were joined by Julia Tobin (Neville's Brenda) and Corrie's Kevin Kennedy in a spectacular show jam packed with comedy and music. Timothy Spall was beamed in to join his Auf Wiedersehen Pet pals in a rollicking sketch set in Colditz Castle and Alan Shearer was on hand to give surprise guest star Mark Knopfler some advice on his music. Denise Welch was joined by Andrea McLean, Gaynor Faye, Pam Royle and Angie Lonsdale in a hilarious episode of Slack Lasses and Kathryn Tickell added some authentic Northumbrian Music to the heady mix.

Sunday for Sammy has now become established as the high-water mark in the North East’s entertainment calendar. The 2008 event, staged at Newcastle City Hall on Sunday 8th February, featured a stellar cast of performers.
Actors Tim Healy, Kevin Whately, Timothy Spall and Christopher Fairbank resurrected their Auf Wiedersehen Pet characters yet again for a hilarious sketch set in Sherwood Forest and written by the shows creators, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. Denise Welch, Charlie Hardwick and Angie Lonsdale performed a side-splitting piece celebrating the final voyage of the Tuxedo Princess and were joined by Zoë Tyler and Coleen Nolan in another, lampooning their popular TV show, Loose Women. The Geordie version is called Slack Lasses. Ex-Lindisfarne musicians Ray Jackson, Billy Mitchell and Ray Laidlaw rocked the City Hall with some magnificent music. Comedians Brendan Healy, Steve Womack and Peter Peverley had the audience in stitches. Young dancer Liam Mower reprised his show-stopping performance in the West End hit Billy Elliott and brought the house down.
75% of proceeds from the sale of this product will be donated to the Sammy Johnson Memorial Fund.

Following in the footsteps of his grandparents who performed far and wide as a double act, Tim Healy's first childhood rôle was alongside his father in the local amateur dramatic society. Tim knew that his future was as a performer and he has entertained in a stunning variety of guises. Tim has worked as a welder, a court jester, a stand-up comic, a film and TV actor, an impressionist and a singer. He also spent three years in the Territorial Army with Gateshead's 4 Para where he received his coveted parachute wings. He has excelled in every area, with the

The latest hilarious video
from the Godfather of North East comedy
Way back on the 22nd October 1957 at the Dominion Theatre in London, Bobby Pattinson won 1st prize of £1000 in the Butlins/Sunday People National Talent Contest. In 1957, this was a fortune as the average weekly wage was only £7. With the prize came the offer of a theatre contract and management by a London agent.
Working his way up the bill, he eventually became a headliner in theatres and cabaret clubs throughout Britain and the English speaking world, including Australia, America and South Africa. He appeared at the London Palladium in 1962 and over the years performed five Sunday Night at the London Palladium TV Shows.
He started his acting career in 1974 in Granada’s The Stars Look Down and appeared in countless TV plays from then on for both Granada and BBC TV.
In 1978, he returned home to Gateshead to open his own music hall The Talk of the Tyne, which was a huge success and didn't have an empty seat for six years.
This programme was recorded at the Gala Theatre in Durham.

his material. That’s what makes him so special.
Every gag he tells sounds like his favourite, no question about it, and he delivers them brilliantly. He's travelled all over the world making people laugh and you have to care about people to want to do that.
Bobby is a one-off, a comedian’s comedian. He’ll always be a legend in the North East. He’s recently fought through a life threatening operation, has bounced back and is performing his own unique brand of humour again. When singer/songwriter Alan Hull died suddenly in November 1995, the reverberations travelled much further than his native Tyneside. As a founding member of the North East group Lindisfarne, his unforgettable songs had been heard around the world. Anyone who listened gained an insight into his thoughts on love, loss, heroes, villains, politics or just having fun, and all were married to melodies that could be delicate and beautiful or grand and anthemic.
On the 19th November 2005, ten years after his death, over 40 of Alan Hull’s musical and literary friends and colleagues gathered at Newcastle City Hall to perform his words and music as their own tribute before a hugely appreciative home-town audience. The money raised by the concert was donated to the North East Young Musicians Fund and all thirty pieces performed by the all-star ensemble that night are featured on this DVD.
