ABRSM Woodwind 2018-2021

On 6th July, ABRSM are launching their new syllabus for saxophone, clarinet, flute, bassoon, descant recorder, treble recorder and oboe.

What's new?

EXAM PIECESNew lists of pieces to choose from for all woodwind instruments.

SAXOPHONE BOOKS: For the first time ever, ABRSM will be producing selected pieces books for saxophone grades 1-5.

EXAM PACKS: Another first for ABRSM, the exam packs include 9 pieces from the new syllabus, covering lists A, B and C with piano accompaniment and access to downloadable audio, scales and sight-reading material, all in one pack! These will be available for grades 1-5 for flute, clarinet and saxophone. Selected pieces will still be available with piano accompaniment and access to audio downloads, but the 'part only' format has been discontinued. Learn more about the new publications and audio here.

SCALES & ARPEGGIOS: AND SIGHT-READINGRevised requirements for these supporting tests mean some new scale and sight-reading books. Grades 1-5 scales and sight-reading for flute, clarinet and saxophone will now be combined in one book, with separate books for grades 6-8. There are also some new books for recorder, bassoon and oboe. Learn more about the syllabus changes here and the new publications here

When are they valid from and when will the 2014-17 syllabus end?

The new syllabus will come into effect in January 2018. There is an overlap period until the end of the Spring term 2018. This means if you are taking your exam in April, you can use either syllabus.
