The octave mandola, known as the octave mandolin in America, is tuned GDAE just like a mandolin but one octave lower meaning that any mandolinist (or violinist for that matter) can usually get to grips with the fretboard pretty easily once they get over the fret spacing being wider.  This instrument will lend a rich, bassy depth to a tune.

The Ashbury Rathlin Octave Mandola features a solid spruce top paired with walnut back and sides and speaks with a strong, clear voice.  The finish is a no-frills satin affair which allows the grain of the woods to shine through, making each individual example of this instrument visually unique, no two bits of wood are ever the same. The instrument is fitted with a bone saddle and has two pre-installed strap buttons.

Ashbury have been constructing and distributing quality folk instruments since 1996. They have a variety of factories in both Vietnam and Indonesia as well as China. The brand works with the long established luthier Phil Davidson to design and create each model which is tested and checked to produce an instrument that is both easy to play and provides a high quality sound. Their range covers all folk fretted instruments such as banjo, mandolin and bouzouki from beginner to professional level. Their handmade instruments, constructed in Vietnam, are created from the finest grade woods and made to exacting standards to produce some of the finest folk instruments in the market today.
