Website Administrator/Content Assistant


Central Arcade Store, Newcastle upon Tyne

Job Description:

There is a vacancy working as part of our growing web team, based in our Arcade store.

We upgraded our website to a Magento platform three years ago (and need to consider a further upgrade to Magento 2 or another in the next year or so), and have significantly developed our web presence and sales as a result. Whilst we are not looking to become a “box shifter”, and a significant requirement of our web site is to drive traffic in store, we also need take the business to the “next level”, giving our customers the opportunity to buy either in store or on line, in the easiest manner possible.

With that in mind we are looking to develop our in-house team to cover the various aspects of developing and running our website.  Going forward these functions could potentially be split for different people, depending on skill sets, availability and also allowing us to develop some staff internally. 

Key Functions


  • Updating and maintaining the e-commerce site using Magento content management system.
    • Creating banners and promo boxes of various sizes to be displayed on the store homepage and other areas of the website.
    • Creating and updating information pages for store details (T&C, returns policy, finance, jobs etc.), events and promotions.
    • Adding and editing products on the online store. Using our internal EPOS system to edit product details such as title, web price and adding keywords for specific search results which then filter through to the website.
    • Manipulating product images in design software.
    • Photographing products and editing to make them suitable for display on website.
    • Creating website background images when required.
    • Liaising with the back-end developers (Ranger) to add new features to the website and to overcome any bugs/issues.
    • Producing reports in terms of sales and customer flow, using google analytics

Social Media

  • Producing content updates and targeted advertising campaigns on social media platforms.
    • Editing images, creating graphics and editing video for posts/event images.
    • Setting up Facebook events
    • Responding to customer queries on Facebook and Twitter.
    • Checking Twitter for any tags/mentions and re-tweeting and/or replying to those tweets.
    • Managing the Google Business pages for all three stores, keeping information up-to-date and setting any special opening hours.
    • Editing and adding video to the company YouTube channel.
    • Creating profile artwork for all social media platform pages and ensuring sizes are correct.

Customer Communications

  • Designing and writing creative email marketing campaigns in MailChimp to be sent out to subscribers on a weekly basis (with some more regular if promoting an event) with the aim of increasing both online sales and footfall in-store.
    • Editing newsletter templates.
    • Gathering and writing unique content.
    • Creating graphics and manipulating product images to display correctly.
    • Previewing campaigns before sending to proofread and check all links work as they should.
    • Managing subscriber data, adding subscribers and creating/importing large CSV files with data.

In-Store Design/POS/Collatoral

  • Applying design and copywriting skills to produce posters, flyers, in-store POS and other printed marketing collateral, whilst adhering to brand style guidelines at all times.
    • Sending design work print-ready (correct colour profile, margins/bleed, hi-res) to external printers.
    • Ensuring any work to be printed in-house is setup correctly and user friendly.
    • Producing quick design work on an ad hoc basis.


  • Giving telephone guidance to customers having issues using the website.
  • Showing other members of staff how to use Magento and solving any problems they may have while using it.

Requirements for the position


  • Experienced graphic designer and being comfortable using Photo Shop or a similar package
  • To be able to write clear, concise and accurate copy.
  • To have experience of using MailChimp or other e-shot management platforms.
  • To be fully conversant with facebook and twitter in terms of using it from a commercial point of view – rather than just as a regular user.
  • To have experience using google analytics.
  • To have a strong interest in music in some shape or form.
  • To be very comfortable using excel and other office packages.


  • To play a musical instrument
  • To have some knowledge in terms of the local music scene – whether that’s in terms of events, bands or education
  • Be familiar or at least aware of GDPR and the implications for business
  • Experience working within the retail / entertainment industry.
  • The application of HTML and CSS coding for layout and other areas as required.
  • Significant previous experience developing and designing websites
  • A good understanding and use of CSS and HTML coding.
